The Role
We need your skills and experience to join our innovative team helping to deliver the connected mobility solutions that will enable the low carbon economy we envision.
You will be part of the Integrated Transport team within the Transport Business Unit, supporting the maturation and operational readiness of transport technology. The team works with innovators, SMEs (small and medium enterprises), and other industry to accelerate the incorporation of new and impactful technology to better serve future mobility needs. We ensure technology is developed in the context of environmental priorities and addresses the market opportunity drawn from wider Connected Places Catapult expertise.
Our aims include stimulating innovation in the transport sector, developing new transport markets, supporting the transition to new transport systems and maintaining the UK’s position as a world-leading innovator.
To achieve these aims, we apply a holistic systems approach to innovation, bringing together inter-related components of successful innovation programmes to maximize impact and leverage initiatives. Examples of such programmes include:
- Decarbonisation of transport across modes in energy evaluation/selection and through large scale implementation and deployment planning working with Government and industry sector in Road, Maritime, Aviation and Rail infrastructure. Within the Integrated Transport team, our primary focus is on multimodal transport, so we need to work closely with our colleagues who specialise in maritime, highways, aviation or rail.
- Applying innovation to support logistics across the supply chain, supporting delivery of the end-to-end logistics, understanding the value of freight, and unlocking investment to support the UK economy.
- Enabling deployment of automation, through removal of barriers and transfer of knowledge to industry through collaboration and trial design.
- Design and develop future traffic management and integration guidance through working with Government, local authority, and technology companies. Enabling open markets and transforming future intelligent transport.
As a Senior Technologist in the Integrated Transport team, your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical leadership of projects relating to one or more initiatives on behalf of a range of commercial and government clients.
- Enabling industry to build required capabilities for growth and innovation in order to address market barriers and create opportunities.
- Playing a key role in developing strategies and project ideas on one or more initiatives.
- Owning and manage relationships with customers, project partners and other industry/government/academic stakeholders.
- Leading programmes with substantial complexity, requiring delegation of tasks to team members.
- Delivering impactful analysis and reports to customers in a range of new mobility areas.
- Providing technical support/coaching to colleagues.
- Contributing to business development by identifying opportunities and contributing to proposals and bidding activity as required.
- Representing Connected Places Catapult at relevant industry events, conferences, and meetings as appropriate.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties to support the Connected Places Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensuring effective business operations including providing cover for members of the team as required.
