Role Description

The Commercial Finance Analyst will provide day-to-day analytical and reporting support to the Commercial Finance Managers and wider finance team. The role involves gathering, validating and analysing financial and operational data, preparing reports, and supporting financial modelling to inform commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Finance Support

  • Provide day-to-day support to Commercial Finance Managers across a range of business activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly performance reports, forecasts and budgets.
  • Support the evaluation of commercial opportunities, including sensitivity analysis and scenario planning.
  • Respond to requests for financial information and analysis from stakeholders across the business.

Financial Modelling

  • Support the development and maintenance of financial models and forecasting tools.
  • Support scenario analysis and sensitivity testing for cashflow forecasting, commercial projects and investment decisions.
  • Maintain model assumptions and supporting documentation.

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Gather, collate and validate financial and operational data from multiple sources.
  • Maintain and update regular reporting packs and KPI dashboards.
  • Analyse trends, variances and performance metrics, highlighting key findings to the Commercial Finance Managers.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial and operational data used in reporting.

Reporting

  • Produce regular and ad hoc reports to support business performance reviews.
  • Prepare variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods.
  • Present data and findings in a clear and concise format suitable for both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and data quality.
  • Support the development of new reports, templates and analytical tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookups and pivot tables.
  • Ability to work accurately with large volumes of data
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities across different stakeholders
  • Good understanding of financial statements

Desirable

  • Part-qualified or recently qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or actively working towards a qualification
  • Experience using Power BI, Power Query or similar reporting tools
  • Previous experience in a finance, analyst or reporting role
  • Knowledge of financial planning and forecasting processes
  • Experience working with financial models, including maintaining and updating assumptions
  • Comfortable using technology and open to learning new tools (e.g. Power BI, AI-enabled tools) to improve analysis and reporting
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a strong willingness to learn and contribute within a dynamic, collaborative team environment
