Tracker Group

Tracker Group, comprising Carbon Tracker and Planet Tracker Initiatives.

Our aim is to enable a Paris-aligned, nature-positive global economy by aligning capital market actions with planetary boundaries.

Our purpose is to ensure that capital markets’ investment and lending decisions are aligned with sustainable practices and support a just transition. We do this through our research and analysis which motivate markets to intervene and regulators to act.

Our research is grounded in conventional financial analysis and focuses on forward-looking material issues.

Position Summary

The Director of Research is part of the Senior Management Team at the Tracker Group. This position is instrumental in delivering Tracker Group’s research programme.

The Director of Research oversees the quality of research deliverables. The range of responsibilities covers six distinctive areas led by Team leads, three in fundamental markets research focusing on: Energy Supply, Energy Demand and Nature; and three in functional teams: Policy, Regulation & Disclosure, Data and Investor Engagement.

The research papers, databases and tools released by the Tracker Group investigate a range of sustainability-related issues, comprising energy and climate transition topics to nature-related issues. They cover different regions, sectors and corporates globally, notably where current investment patterns are not aligned with sustainable outcomes. Our research also highlights context-dependent best practices, analysing data from a wide variety of sources to inform investment decision-making through enhanced risk-adjusted return analysis.

The Director of Research is responsible for research production and quality control through guiding and supporting research teams. This will include the synthesis of findings and writing of reports for external delivery to the capital markets, but also to a broader community of stakeholders, including corporates, regulators, standards setters, philanthropy, media and other key audiences.

The aim of research output is to deliver impact, especially targets agreed with donors. To help achieve this, the Director of Research will support the Head of Engagement in creating an investor engagement plan based on the key influencing levers identified in each research deliverable. From time-to-time, the Director of Research will oversee the delivery of research consultancy contracts and/or the monetisation of data provision, where appropriate.
