POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Optima Energy, a Valsoft company, is seeking a Business Development Executive to join our growing commercial team in the UK. This role is ideal for a motivated sales professional with experience in the energy sector who is ready to drive growth and build lasting client relationships.

The successful candidate will identify, develop, and convert new opportunities across the UK energy market, focusing on brokers, TPIs, large end users, housing associations, and public sector organisations. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams to position Optima’s innovative solutions—such as bill validation, data analytics platforms, PDF parsing automation, carbon reporting, and exception reporting—to meet customer needs and deliver business growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

New Business & Lead Generation

  • Identify, target, and engage prospective clients (TPIs, brokers)
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through outreach, networking, referrals, and market research
  • Follow up on inbound leads and manage early-stage engagement

Sales Process Management

  • Conduct discovery calls to understand customer requirements and challenges
  • Present Optima Energy’s suite of solutions, including product demos where needed
  • Prepare proposals, commercial models, and pricing submissions
  • Work with the Commercial Director to progress opportunities through to contract signature

Account & Relationship Building

  • Develop long-term relationships with new customers
  • Identify upsell or cross-sell opportunities
  • Represent Optima Energy professionally at industry events, webinars, and meetings

Market & Product Knowledge

  • Stay updated on energy market developments including billing, validation, metering, and sustainability trends
  • Provide feedback on market intelligence and client insights to help shape product development

Proven experience in B2B sales within the energy industry — ideally with a broker, TPI, supplier, software provider, or consultancy

Strong understanding of:

  • Energy billing and tariffs
  • Bill validation and B2B billing accuracy
  • Data platforms, portals, or analytical tools
  • Energy procurement or risk management

Experience building and managing a sales pipeline

Excellent communication and presentation skills

Self-starter mindset with the ability to work autonomously

ADDITIONAL or PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience selling SaaS or software-driven energy solutions
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce)
  • Understanding of sustainability reporting and carbon management trends
  • Fully remote position within the UK
